Next Wednesday, 7th May 2014, Paris SG will take on Stade Rennais, who are not yet safe from relegation, at Parc des Princes, for round 36 of Ligue 1 on a match where the home side can finally be coronated as the new French champions if they win the game.

Will Paris SG celebrate their 4th Ligue 1 title against Stade Rennais?
Will Paris SG celebrate their 4th Ligue 1 title against Stade Rennais?

Because of their unexpected draw at Stade Bonal with a Sochaux side on the verge of relegation, Paris SG have delayed for one more week their almost certain coronation as French champions this season. The Parisien side are looking for the 4th league title in their history and next Wednesday they will have a fantastic opportunity to clinch it.

After beating Lyon at the Coupe de la Ligue final two weeks ago, the Parisian side claimed the trophy and grabbed their second cup honour this season.

The next match against Stade Rennais will certainly not be an easy one, if one considers that Stade Rennais are not yet safe from relegation and that they might want to solve that matter once and for all at Parc des Princes, thus causing Paris SG a really major upset.

For the match against Stade Rennais, Laurent Blanc will certainly still not be able to count on the Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is still recovering from his recent injury.

As for Stade Rennais, the match at Parc des Princes is also of major importance. The Rennes-based side are on the 15th place of Ligue 1 table just six points ahead of Sochaux, that is the first team below the relegation line, and with three matches to play until the end of the season, it is still virtually possible for Stade Rennais to be relegated.

Philippe Montanier’s side has had a fairly inconsistent season so far, as they combined some top-notch performances with some other very close to mediocrity. Next Saturday, Stade Rennais will take on Guingamp on the Coupe de France final and, in case of win, they will not only claim the trophy for the third time in their history but they will also grant a place at UEFA Europa League next season.

For the match against Paris SG, Philippe Montanier is still not certain if he can count on the contributions of Jonathan Pitroipa, Wesley Said and their captain Romain Danzé, who are not yet fully recovered from their respective injuries.

When both sides met at Stade de la Route de Lorient back in December, Paris SG won 3-1 thanks to goals from Cavani, Ibrahimovic, and Thiago Motta. The match at Parc des Princes next Wednesday will certainly be very intense, between two sides that play attractive football, but Paris SG are firm favourites to win the match.
