Mauricio Pochettino will have had a wry smile as they decimated West Ham for the entire game in the Premier League’s only outing Sunday and only a late consolation for West Ham dampened the mood slightly. Harry Kane notched a brace and took his tally to 7 goals in his last 4 Premier League appearances after a run of 3 goals in 17 appearances. The England forward looks to have hit a fine patch of form and the Yids will be praying that he can carry on his momentum and repeat last year’s antics where he fired in 31 goals in all competitions. Tottenham also remain unbeaten in the Premier League since the opening day of the season. Tottenham’s home form is also starting to improve with 4 wins and a draw from their last 5 games which has also seen them score 13 times. The fans are cautiously remaining optimistic that this could be the season where they mount a serious challenge for the top 4 with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea below them by a considerable margin.

Diego Costa goal v Norwich
Diego Costa goal vs Norwich City

Jose Mourinho would’ve snatched a win out of your hands no matter by how many goals against Norwich City at the weekend. Once again they dominated but could only find the breakthrough midway through the 2nd half as Diego Costa clinically scored the decisive goal. The pressure was building on Mourinho after the latest Premier League defeat to Stoke City which was staggeringly their 7thleague defeat of the season. Roman Abrahmovic still firmly believes he has the only man at the helm who is capable of getting the club out of the mess they currently find themselves in. The win over Norwich saw them switch places with the Canaries but still remain 12 points off the Champions League qualification places. Defensively they looked impressive but are still lacking that cutting edge in the final 3rd with Eden Hazard half the performer of last season whilst Diego Costa still continues to lounge around the pitch looking uninterested.

Tottenham are unbeaten in 6 games when they’ve played on a Sunday whereas Chelsea have lost 2 of the last 3 times they’ve had to feature on a Sunday. The last meeting between these 2 sides was on a Sunday and also had silverware at stake as Chelsea won the Capital One Cup 2-0. It was the psychological edge they needed as they went on to win the Premier League and that victory in the final was just 2 months after Tottenham smashed 5 goals past them in the Premier League. Tottenham had 12 shots on target against West Ham which is more than any other Premier League side has managed in one game this season. Harry Kane has the best goals per game ratio in London derbies with a 0.86 goal a game average (12 goals/14 apps) with Thierry Henry 2nd on 0.73 (43/59).

Erik Lamela returns from suspension for Tottenham but his replacement, Heung Son-Min was a key part in Tottenham’s attacking potency against West Ham and could keep his place. Dele Alli picked up a needless yellow card however and will now serve a 1 match suspension against Chelsea and the 19-year old will be a big miss in the heart of Tottenham’s midfield. Fellow Englishmen Ryan Mason is the likely man Pochettino will elect to step in. Mourinho gave Kenedy his first start since arriving from Brazilian football in the summer but ahead of such a crucial game it is likely Cesar Azpilicueta will return to left back.
