Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab had a dreadful beginning of the Indian Premier League 2015 since both of them lost their inaugural matches. The first surrendered their game against Kolkata Knight Riders by a vast margin of seven wickets while the latter faced the same fate vs. Rajasthan Royals who defeated them by 26 runs. MI scored 168 runs for the loss of three wickets in the allocated 20 overs and KKR achieved the target by smashing 3-170 with nine balls to spare. RR set a target of 163 from 20 overs for KXIP who managed 8-136 at the end of the final over. MI will face KXIP in the coming encounter which will ensure two points for the side that plays better on the day.
The skipper of MI, Rohit Sharma, smashed unbeaten 98 vs. KKR and Corey Anderson stood firm at his end for 55 runs while Aaron Finch, Aditya Tare, Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard are capable of playing big knocks briskly. Their bowling revolves around Lasith Malinga, Vinay Kumar, Corey Anderson, Jasprit Bumrah, Pragyan Ojha and Harbhajan Singh.
Most of the batsmen of KXIP took firm start to their innings but were unable to consolidate and were dismissed in their thirties and twenties. Murali Vijay, Axar Patel, David Miller and George Bailey posted 37, 24, 23 and 24 runs on board as Virender Sehwag, Wriddhiman Saha and Glenn Maxwell are required to concentrate on their batting. Anureet Singh was their supreme bowler with three wickets, Mitchell Johnson held two and Sandeep Sharma bowled nicely but Axar Patel and Karanveer Singh were expensive.
